Chris Daughtry grew up in small towns in North Carolina and Virginia. As a teenager, he learned to play rock 'n' roll music and soon formed his own band. Despite his broad talent as a singer, Chris spent years performing in small nightclubs, never able to catch the eye of a record producer. But then he auditioned for American Idol, and suddenly people began to take notice.
Chris soon emerged as the favorite to win the competition during the fifth season of Idol, but after reaching the final four he was stunned to learn he had been voted off. He soon signed a record deal, though, and his album, Daughtry, shot to the top of the charts where it remained for more than 100 weeks while selling some 4 million copies. Although he didn't win on American Idol, Chris's fans remain devoted as they watch his star continue to rise.
